Parkway Pizza South
Oh Parkway, what can I say? I love this place. I’ve never done a formal review because, in all truthfulness, I never wanted to feel like I’d “judged” this place. I grew up coming to this place, and it’s never changed… which is perfect.
Hit this spot with Esteban the other night, and we were having so much fun, I just felt the urge to throw a review up here to crystalize my love for this place. I’m gonna keep it simple, because that’s exactly what this place is, simple.
The pizza comes square cut, which I usually loathe, but for some reason the childhood nostalgia kicks in and it’s the only way I can imagine eating this pizza. The toppings are always piled as high as the ceiling, only held down to the perfectly baked crust by a mountain of cheese holding it all together. The sauce is just spicy enough to let you know it’s serious, but not so much that you’re gonna break a sweat from it.
Every time I eat here, I’m immediately transported back to my eight year old self, and I cannot get enough of it.
Now, we all know what this site is about, so I want to get into that here as well. The bathroom. They recently re-painted it, and an old classmate of mine from the neighborhood did the work. It’s pretty great, to be honest. My only beef would be with the geographical inaccuracies, but that’s splitting hairs. I mean, continents are pretty straight forward, so to get that wrong feels almost like it was deliberate. But then again, you’ve got a giant puffer fish floating amongst a pile of misplaced buildings from downtown… so I’m gonna let it slide. The bathroom was clean, there was toilet paper and the art made me laugh. Can’t ask for much more from your local pizza dive.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating. This place isn’t a 5-star joint, and it doesn’t try to be. Four stars is the top this place could get, and I’m proud to give it such.
NOTE This review does NOT in any way condone whatever’s going on at the west side location. I refuse to enter that place and this review should not be considered anything other than a review of the true, original, Southside location.
